There is a false floor to our education system that makes us believe that the goal of education is to accumulate knowledge. For the brightest people in the world, the goal of education was to accumulate curiosity. In truth, we only become wise when we realize how little we know and how much there is to learn. The greatest professors do not teach from the front of the class, they teach from the middle of the class, empowering teams for students to inquire and learn themselves. Their hallmark is that instead of answering questions, they encourage more of them.

Children who are hungry or afraid cannot learn, perhaps they can retain data for tests, but that is not learning, that’s reciting. To learn, a child needs a full stomach, a safe space, and an encouraging adult who understands and co-regulates the intense emotions that come with intellectual and physical growth in every mammal.

This is a good read or watch the live version on the link enclosed with the article. I loved watching “Reading Rainbow” with my children and LeVar Burton’s relevance has only become sharpened by attacks on his race and sexuality. Banning a book like Charlotte’s Web because it has a talking pig, discounts that fact that the Bible had talking donkeys, snakes, and other oddities like a whale that ate a human without digesting him.

The GOP’s attack on woman—in particular intelligent women—is undeniable. If you are a woman and vote for Trump, you are voting for your daughter or granddaughter to be chattel for the far right.
