America is pushing teachers to the brink
https://apple.news/ALKnZqmkUS0GHKKT7v1FpuQ
We continue to ask more from our teachers and yet their pay has been stagnant for years. Many districts are advertising jobs and no one is responding. This in the wake of many teachers leaving because of incivility at school board meetings, being asked to carry guns, politicized curriculum and the stress of COVID on staff, students and parents. If we’re going to ask so much of our teachers we’re going to need to pay them. There are many existing areas where this money could be found, but it would take a re-distribution of priorities in America. The common question this week is “how important are our children?”

Owning Guns Puts People in Your Home at Greater Risk of Being Killed, New Study Shows
https://apple.news/A6BlGfUXQSWScA9nT_2U1PQ
It is a fallacy to believe that owning a gun will make your household safer. Don’t let the NRA and its minions fool you. Guns DO kill people.

New research suggests there is a complicated relationship between narcissism and mask wearing
Narcissism, like many other mental health issues, does not simply come in a one-size-fits-all package, therefore it is hard to just call all anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers narcissists. By definition, narcissists are self-absorbed, but there are grandiose narcissists and vulnerable narcissists. It is the grandiose narcissist that tends to flout rules that involve public behavior.

Why did the doctor ask if we have a gun in the house at my toddler’s checkup? Because this is America
https://apple.news/A7ep_Q-rBRdmJrSOTXpUe7Q
It is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics that pediatricians ask parents about guns. As the author, Arwa Mahdawi, states that this “makes sense in a country where there are more guns than people and where people get accidentally shot by toddlers on a weekly basis. This is the US – where guns are the leading cause of death for children age one and older…”
It doesn’t seem hyperbolic at all to say that in America, the right to own a gun is more important to many than the right of a child to live.
